Use the spotless-maven-plugin maven plugin to check source code formatting. By default, the check is disabled and only run in the CI Build pipeline. But it can be manually enabled in the mvn command line.

This PR is essentially a rebase of #163 onto the master branch. Thus it superseedes and closes #163.

This is draft status, we still need to:

  • discuss and agree on the code formatting guidelines to be enforced,
  • lint the source code once according to the agreed guidelines.
