Lately we run into problems with messages to messagestores and subadapters being rejected because of some duplicate constraint

What is the scope of a duplicate check?

In my opinion a duplicate check is performed on incoming external messages

Requirements from a developer perspective:

• This feature needs to be explicitly enabled / disabled
• The element of the request/request header/request params that is used can have a default but should be configurable
• The feature needs to be well documented
• The scope of this feature should not go outside of the scope of the external listener (no side effects on sub adapters)
