Though I do wonder what's gonna be the oldest version of windows this can support without doing the hunt-for-the-old-linker route you did on your blog post?

bflat ships with a linker - it's the LLVM linker. It's different from link.exe that I used in the experiment. But largely compatible. Of course you can run bflat build -c and that will only generate an object file that you can link yourself however you want. LLVM linker defaults to subsystem version 6.0, which means Vista. Tweaking that (there might be an argument you can pass with --ldflags to bflat build) you might be able to go lower. I didn't try.
