Apps with widgets not working: Weawow, Accuweather

I saw there is an issue with widgets that have a setup screen, but for older versions of Android. I'm having pretty much the same issue, but on the latest version of Android. Interestingly, the widgets I want to use worked the first time I tried them, but then I became unable to place new versions of the same widgets. I've tried the workarounds, it still doesn't work.

Steps to reproduce

Install Lawnchair
Install weawow or accuweather
within Lawnchair launcher, try to add a widget from either app to the home screen

Expected behavior

Like I said, sometimes on a new Lawnchair install the widgets work properly at first, triggering their setup page. If so, just keep adding them. When not working, the widget will just be placed as a blank widget and often the launcher will crash.
