@huntsman0697 and @Shard per word of the QM on Discord, we can assign certain troops, like Grey Knights etc., to Lin's personal guard in the vault. It might be useful to add in a few options to that effect.

@huntsman0697 Can you also add in having the telepathy choir try to do anti-mind control on the Descents? It's not the best with the 1st Circle around, but it's still better than nothing.

Sure I'll add it a bit later a bit busy atm and theres plenty of time to make the changes.

the abom is bleeding itself to reach for something it desperately wants. that is exactly the kind of thing malice would want to ruin. Since it can't kill Lin, it would probably try and sabotage the angyls assault. so a Mal Damon showing up and "helping" would be fesable.
I mean its thing is usually screw chaos gods before anyone else, so it probably wouldn't even want to kill Lin.

Anything that pisses off chaos is a win in Mala's book.

You're probably wondering why I'm about to shoot you, General.

Had this been twenty years ago, it would have been as revenge for my brother you so casually killed. Had I blown your brains out a decade ago, it would have been to prevent another Tyrellian Massacre.

Today?

Today I just don't give a fuck.

*BLAM*

Quit whining, you! It's just a leg wound. These worthless laspistols cauterize their own damn wounds, too. Now, where was I?

I don't know exactly when I stopped giving a damn. Perhaps it was after feeding yet another bright young adjutant to your tame beasts, or putting up yet another scapegoat in front of a firing squad. It horrified me at first, though it numbed over time. Eventually, though - eventually I learned to like it. I loved watching those hopes and dreams of escaping the Fenrisian wolves end in teeth and blood, and I had to stifle a giggle as I listened to those innocent men swear the honest truth as I hung them high. Life is a game, General, and you taught me how to flip the board. So congratulations, I suppose! I am the product of your concerted incompetence.

Now, you might be asking yourself, "if she doesn't care, why do anything at all?" You see, there is one thing I do care about, General, and that's everyone else. I hate seeing your silly rages and depressions, your hopes and pleasures, and I just want to see 'em burn. I'm a schoolyard bully at heart; I won't be happy until all your little toys and schemes are broken and shattered into smoke and flame.

Speaking of which, I really should've set off the armory charges several minutes ago. There! Much better.

You may hate me now, General, but understand this: I hate myself more than I hate you. I hate everything, from those little scurrying ants outside to the headless groxes running around inside your command center. In fact, while I'm still talking about those men...there, much better. The combat servitors should keep a spring in their steps, I think.

I don't want blood, or rage, or pleasure or hope. I just want the whole thing to come crashing down, and maybe to be the one who throws the match. I've found a new boss, you see, one who thinks much the same way. He doesn't tell me to give sacrifices, or to wave incense under hunks of rock, or even to burn and maim and kill. The Lost One simply tells me to have fun, and I do. I've enjoyed my time here, General, and it's time for me to bring my fun to the rest of your little Crusade.

Now, where did I put that promethium

"Your request for transfer to the Black Irons has been approved."

Nothing to live for.

"I require volunteers willing to suffer horrific side effects and certain death."

What's a life when you want death?

"Genetic analysis indicates viability for Thunder Warrior implantation process."

Death in battle, for redemption, for honor, for those who could still live.

"Your expected lifespan with be around 200 years, after considerations of all Juvenat use."

Something worth spending a life on.

"Are you sure you wish to undergo the procedure?

He didn't need it anyway.

"Yes."

Cherubim died by power sword in melee, burning the daemon away.

"You lack the power to save them."

The Angyl dueled his sword with it's own, parrying strength and speed with skill. If only he honed his body better, somehow.

"I can give you that power. For a small price."

One Angyl fell, and yet more tore their way through the militia.

"They will slay the saint, your governor and everyone you love."

He and his brothers charged to intercept, only to be hounded by more Angyls, wearing the false mask of Saints. He had seen what a real one was like.

"What's your soul compared to that?

More Angyls came. He'd die for what was right. He met the Archangyl in battle. Not one step further-

"The power to make a difference?

The Angyls broke past his band, flew past, slaughtered past him. He had failed.

"Is your soul worth their lives?

He should be dying, not them. He should have died.

"Let me help you."

The rage of Khorne met the Order of the Abomination. Hate given life broke the chains of lies.

The Archangyl fell, it's face a mask of shock. Warriors of thunder and blood marched out of the city.

Angyls died by the masses, the laughter of a war god ringing in the distance.

For glory. For death. For blood.

Blood for the Blood God.

Skulls for the Skull Throne.

Deepwood Defense: Golden Skies Edition
A report by Magos Biologis p3T3r-P4N in the aftermath of the Gilded Skies incursion

Just like the Skies of Blood, the incursion by the despicable Abomination showed new tactics and strategies from the wildlife and people of the Deepwoods in response to demons trespassing onto their domain. There was even some new wildlife that was observed this time which will be mentioned in this report after discussing how the creatures mentioned in the previous report fared in this new incursion.

While during the previous demonic assault the Shrine Fairies were forced to be protected thanks to the khornate's hatred and resistance to psykers making them almost helpless targets this time was different. Though not strong in psychic might the Shrine Fairies are almost unparalleled in making the best use out of a little power via inhuman control, magic rituals, and the ability to pool their power in choirs. Thus similarily to the Skies of Blood, the Shrine Fairies spent the short time before the Incursion's start preparing a grand ritual to empower and protect the defenders of the Deepwoods to give them a vital edge that might be the difference between life and death.

After this great ritual, the Shrine Fairies split up into three major groups which was a surprising change from the last battle. The first and smallest group was the Shrine Fairies version of battle psykers called Fae Knights who fought on the frontline using their mastered powers to the best of their abilities. Each of these Knights was at least the equal of Avernus's own minor battle psykers despite their smaller size and in some cases lower power. The second major group of Shrine Fairies were several small choirs of fairies, called Fairy Circles for their usual round shape, who would bolster the frontline with small rituals of defense and healing, These acts were very helpful whenever the demons made a major push by blunting the enemies momentum and getting the defenders back on their feet. The last and largest group of Shrine Fairies were the ones who stayed behind in their cities. This is not to say they were just cowering behind their walls but instead they were preparing greater and more powerful rituals to help fight off any Archangyls that would show up.

The Slayer Fairies, in contrast, were much more similar in strategy to their actions in the previous incursion with all of them gathering together to be buffed by their more butterfly-like cousins and then splitting up into small groups in order to ambush their foes. However unlike the Blood God's forces who were expert enough warriors and used to trickery that even a successful ambush could result in injury and a failed one would lead to a protracted battle without any escape this time it was different. For the Angyls of Tjapa are too dependent on orders and commands in order to properly react to the hit-and-run tactics favored by Slayer Fairies. This meant that even if the initial ambush didn't score a kill they could safely retreat to ambush at another time. The only real issue the Slayer Fairies had was that their tendency to form sympathetic connections with their foes has an unforeseen side effect when dealing with the Abomination's Angyls psychic shouts to obey them. While thankfully few if any Slayer Fairies fell to demonic control more than a few Slayer Fairies experienced temporary headaches from the Angyls mind-numbing singing which caused a few dangerous and sometimes fatal accidents.

Lastly of the how the old species fared is the Bwana Trees and their Dyrad minions. Just like the previous incursion many of the dead Avernite defenders were brought into the Bwana Trees' pools in order to be reborn as Dryads and continue to fight even after death. But what was different this time was that thanks to the Fairy Circles handling much of the healing very few animals were taken to the Bwana Trees alive which meant that the trees didn't need to push themselves as hard in order to produce as many Dryads as possible. This led to fewer of the trees dying due to the poisoning themselves and Shrine Fairy sacrifices in order to replenish the Bwana Trees' psychic might. Might that was sorely needed since while the forces of Tjapa were not as deadly as Khorne's and therefore needed less empowerment to be effective the Angyls had their own issues. This being their attempts to take control of the Bwana Trees' Dryads through their demonic singing. While the more intelligent Dryads barely needed help to resist the Angly Call the more feral Dyrads required intense focus and energy from their plant masters to prevent them from joining the Great Enemy.

Finally for the new species spotted some background information is needed to understand why these creatures were showed now instead of earlier. It is well known that the forces of the Abomination are mostly mindless slaves who can not help but obey the orders of masters usually too far and stubborn to change or adapt their plans if the army encounters unexpected dangers and difficulties. I mention this since it can not be understated how badly this flaw was shown in the Anglys' battle in the Deepwoods. It is likely that the forces of Tjapa did not even know that the Deepwoods were any different from any of the (admittable still deadly) lesser forests of Lindon for the initial groups seemed to just be marching through it not to fulfill some objective but merely as what they thought was the shortest path to their target. This led them to be almost completely unprepared for guerilla warfare that is the Deepwoods specialty. From Phase Tiger and Slayer Fairies hit-and-run tactics decimating the advance and Bwana Trees and Fairy Circles healing and reviving any wounded to Illusion Trees and Chatterbox Parrots* leading to numerous friendly fire incidents would have made any sane commander order an alternate route be taken but the Archangly in charge of this force was too stubborn to change its plans because of some despicable Xenos and their cowardly tactics.

And so more Agnyls marched into the Deepwoods and more Angyls died. That is not to say that the enemy commander didn't try to adapt for there were more than a few attempts to break the Deepwoods. The first tactic was the simple and obvious one that has been used by humans since ancient Terra when dealing with enemies hiding in a forest, that is burning it all to the ground. To accomplish this some special Angyls were brought in. They resembled wheels constantly spinning and burning with eyes all over their frame. These 'Ophanims' were brought to the Deepwoods where they're spinning increase in speed until suddenly throwing out golden warpfire at their target trees. Now if this was any other planet than Avernus than this would have been a brilliant strategy since while some other deathworld trees might have evolved resistance to normal flames with fire from the warp that could erase entire hab blocks mere 'mundane' resistance could never hope to be enough. But Avernus had a guiding intelligence with some of the psychic understanding in the galaxy which meant that it would not have some sinister traps for such an obvious strategy. One if these 'traps' were little 'pellets' that were scattered over many trees which in normal circumstances would do absolutely nothing but give them fire, especially warpfire, then something interesting happens. For you see those pellets were actually eggs that required fire for the creature inside it to be born. This creature was what I title a Warpfire Fly since it literally is made of fire the same fire used to burn the tree it was on in fact. This meant that soon the golden flames of Ophanims were no longer under their control which they learned when the Warpfire Flies swarmed over them like moths to a flame. But unlike moths, Warpfire Flies thrived in this condition so much that they explosively breed when in fires such as these meaning the burning Ophanims were devoured alive by the Warpfire Flies. After this, the Warpfire Fly swarms would attack the Angyls with their own allies' flames.

Another new species noticed for similar reasons to the Warpfire Flies was Ashwood Wraiths. These Ashwood Wraiths at first appeared to be completely normal (for a non-Avernus deathworld) with little to no special abilities. Naturally this invited suspicion and concern by the humans of Avernus since they knew all too well that nothing on this warp-touched planet was so simple. They were proven right when the Ophanims burned a grove of these trees to the ground leaving nothing but smoke and ash. But suddenly that smoke and ash started gathering together into a ghostly image of the fallen tree. These 'wraiths' vengeful for the painful end of their lives immediately started attacking their enemies. Some wraiths who still had some remains possessed their own burnt corpses to physically assault the Anglys while others choked and blinded the demons with the smog of their ghastly bodies.

The last thing of note for the Deepwoods during the Skies of Gold was when the Archangly in charge of the army that was lost to the woods finally had enough of what it perceived as an insult. Thus the 4th Circle Archangly Voxatron** arrived at the Deepwoods and for the first time, the Deepwoods was on the back foot. For everywhere Voxatron walked death soon followed both in the physical sense and in a mental way. Voxatron's voice was so hypnotic and mindnumbing that even Avernus's creatures hatred of Chaos was overcome leaving nothing behind but brainless slaves of the Abomination. But all was not lost for Shrine Fairies in the cities started to unleash the ritual they had been preparing all Incursion for. The Shrine Fairies opened there mouths to sing a song to drown Voxatron's hypnotic hymns. The fairies rapped about freedom, independence and to fight against those more powerful than you in their strange alien language while Voxatron song a prayer in old gothic telling all to obey its god or it would face its wrath. While this ritual didn't completely counteract the power of the Archangly it did weaken it and its ability to take control of minds that the next phase of the plan could begin. All of the Dryads in the Deepwoods gathered together to form three massive armies to wear down their powerful foe. One army that would, unfortunately, be controlled by the Archangly, another army to fight the controlled one, and finally the most powerful of Dryads supported by their Bwana Tree masters to actually try and harm the 4th circle demon. Finally, when the majority of the Dryads had fallen and Voxatron was at his weakest since he had entered the Deepwoods the Slayer Fairies strongest party, the Dragon Slayers, struck. The Slayers hit the demon with everything they had burning its wings with the breath of a fire dragon melting its eyes with acidic and poisonous spit but even then it didn't seem to be enough for the Archangly was able to slowly heal these wounds and shrug them off. Then suddenly the Shrine Fairies' song entered into its climax even temporarily weaving in Voxatron's own hymns into the melody and just as the final last words of the song were spoken by the Shrine Fairies the Dragon Slayer's leader, Oberon, silenced the demon with a hidden blow in his invisible (bastard) dragon armor. After this, the number of demons entering the Deepwoods drastically decreased for the rest of the Incursion despite the forest's grievous losses.

*Chatterbox Parrots are birds with the uncanny ability to perfectly mimic the speech of something else. To accomplish this the Parrot has several minor psychic powers such as the ability to make almost any kind of noise possible to being able to 'talk' to multiple people at once while saying something different to each of them. While normally a minor annoyance at once during the Gilded Skies the Chatterbox Parrots was able to mimic leader Angyls' voices effectively letting the Parrots command the enemy troops until they eventually wisened up to the 'prank'.

**Not to be confused with Metatron the voice of Tjapa.

@NotteBoy97 this ability of the slayer fairies is an active ability, meaning they have to choose to use it. If they want to kill things in single combat without forming sympathetic connections, they can just do so no worries. It just means they can't make wargear out of the daemons they slay, which I don't think many of the slayer fairies are inclined to do, to say the least.

Though on the subject, I don't think it's completely unfeasible for them to do so. Precedent exists in both 40k and Fantasy of safely making pure weapons out of Chaos stuff. In Fantasy, we have Alaric the Mad using daemon blood to forge the Empire's Runefangs. In 40k, Logan had a power axe wielded by a Chaos Champion reforged into the Axe of Morkai, and Kaldor Draigo reforged his Nemesis Force Sword by melting down and purifying a Bloodthirster's Axe of Khorne. When it comes to the slayer fairies, I'd wager that the very best of them might have the ability to make daemonically-sourced wargear.

Yeah I knew the ability was active but I liked the idea that since this is the first Avernite Tjapa incursion that some glitches and mistakes happened like how some Slayer Fairies thought it a good idea to try and connect with mind control demons or the fact that the mindless Dryads were at risk of being turned against the defenders. I might edit to make this a bit more advert that the Slayer Fairies chose to form a bond. Also might give one of the Dragon Slayers something like Draigo's sword from the Bloodthirster they killed the last incursion.

A Doomed Pact

Even amongst the forces of Tjapa, the embodiment of fanaticism, there are those Angyls that take their enthrallment to that aspect to an extreme that is unhealthy amongst their kind.

So, it was with the glorious company, in life a group of one hundred marines who had sold their life in glory to the Emperor and in death had been rewarded with ascension to holy communion in the God Emperor's glory, elevated into the golden Hierarchy. Alone they were equal only to a herald, but together they could defeat even those high in the circles, their bond and their faith driving them forwards past any obstacle, until at last they came to the world of hell.

A billion trillion Angyls had come to this place and a billion trillion Angyls had already fallen, a massacre of divine flesh unlike any that the legions of the God Emperor had seen, save upon the grey walls of Mars where the Dragon itself roared its hatred to the universe.

And to this world the Glorious Company had come in full, all one hundred of the blessed communions, banded together driven by their purpose to destroy the idol of sin, to be at least one small part of that glorious expurgation of vice and infidelity that ran rampant over this world, awash in the sin of the Xenos, the Mutant and the Witch.

One hundred of the most powerful heralds of Tjapa, all of whom were slaughtered and cast aside by the Ancient One of the Foundry, the Ancient Lizardman irritatedly tossing them aside as they attempted to stop him, all cut down in less than a moment.

Over half their number had died in that instant, but they did not give up, if anything the desire to wreak vengeance drove them to return immediately, inducing them to invoke the pact that they had crafted between themselves for this eventuality.

Dragging their broken essence to the Forge of Souls, the birthplace of so many of the warp's daemon weapons, the soul grinders foremost amongst them. Even the most damaged Angyl might be returned to battle immediately if interred within one, in almost a parody of the Astarte's Dreadnaught and it was this pact that they invoked with the Forge, like so many other servants of Tjapa, willing to give their everything to carry out their maker's commands.

And so into this Soul Grinder they were dutifully placed, a baroque ornate carriage of world destroying guns and soul charing flames, the baleful gleam of rad weapons gleaming from its sides, all the better to scoure the biological monsters of Avernus to dust.

To the World they returned, unknowing of the fate the Forge dispatched them too, for it was Old and knew so much that the young God did not.

For as any Avernite will tell you, there are some things the World simply does not allow, amongst them, radiation weapons.

Instead of emerging once again from the poll to brave the fury of the Penguins, or arriving with the Exalted Host massing by the portal, instead they and all those that bore weaponry like them were pulled away by the World and forced into a land of perpetual storms under a green sky of polonium filled clouds, where the air was so toxic to ordinary life, that in the greater galaxy nothing could possibly live there.

The only records the Imperium would have possibly been able to compare it too, were ancient battles of the War of Iron where Man's AI servants unleashed the power of radiation to a level never before envisioned, yet this was worse by far worse.

And there were creatures that lived there.

Their spine plates lighting up in the darkness, the monsters gazed in fury at those who would dare enter their homes and roared.

For @Andres110 who suggested the idea to me, I hope I got across what you wanted.

Maledictus, Dragon of Tjapa

Nianque

Verified Dragon
Maledictus, Dragon of Tjapa

An old threnody dragon with gleaming gold scales who had long crushed the lesser races beneath his will. When he had heard that the incursion had targeted the human interlopers, Maledictus had been content to harass the warpspawn elsewhere. Then Yassakamtiv had gathered the others and he had been forced along. If he was to go to this pitiful human realm, then it would be because there were worthy enemies waiting for him who would make wonderful thralls for the short time they stuck around.

When the grand flight of dragons reached the mountains, the humans were like ants trying to fight off the golden tide. He scoffed in disgust at their pitiful defenses, very few of these humans had and powers worth their name and yet before the dragons they were nothing. Their powers were weak and it would be up to him, Maledictus the Dominator to save them from both the daemons and themselves!

"Ral Thaarn Zii!" Maledictus bellowed at the pitiful daemon subordinate. He slammed his considerable will against it and grinned as he felt it match him. Finally, a challenge! He gathered power from the depths of his soul and smashed aside the daemon's barriers and just like the others before it, it submitted. All in all he was quite pleased as these new daemons responded well to their new master just like all slaves should. Maledictus' eyes glowed gold as he absently sent his slaves to do battle and focused on finding his next conquest.

'THEY ARE BENEATH YOU'

A group of filthy humans were in his way. "Ral!" A single word crushed their pitiful wills beneath his own as he looked for something worth his time.

'CRUSH THEIR WILLS'

...There! A powerful daemon commanding a lesser army of thralls. "Ral Thaarn Zii!" His will smashed into the surprised daemon's and for a moment it seemed like he had the advantage, then the daemon began pushing back.

'ALL MUST OBEY'

Maledictus felt satisfaction in finally meeting a worthy opponent. He would force this one to obey him and then all would know his dominion! He poured forth all the considerable might of his own soul and grinned as the daemon's will matched his own.

'BOW BEFORE THE EMPEROR'

The golden glow in his eyes intensified as a glorious golden haze descended upon the contest of wills. Then all of a sudden he was giving ground to the daemon and all he could focus on was the golden light.

"SERVE"

The first layer of his own mental defenses were breached all at once and Maledictus was filled with hatred. How dare this daemon overpower him! He who was the Dominator and had crushed the wills of thousands of mortals and daemons alike! This… angyl would bow before his might!

'SUBMIT'

Another layer of his defenses broken. Either Maledictus would turn this around and crush the archangyl, or he himself would be forced to submit; such was the natural order of things. He summoned all of his remaining strength to push back his opponent and rammed it into the archangyl's own will.

'SURRENDER'

His last attempt to force back the mighty archangyl was batted aside by the glorious being. Two more layers of his defenses were broken open and flooded with glorious golden light until only the innermost sanctum of his soul was all that Maledictus still had.

'OBEY'

One last push was all it took and then Maledictus bowed before his radiant conqueror. The gilded truth filled his soul and he finally saw the light. His mind became filled with the orders of his superior "Defend the ritual".

"I obey, glorious one." the titanic dragon answered as his scales began turning a glorious gold under the sheer radiant might of his god's honored Archangyl. Now that he had his orders, Maledictus rushed to comply, eager to obey his superior's every word.

Utter certainty filled him that the First Circle must complete the ritual and call forth another of their lord's exalted ones. Only then would they march upon the filthy human's pathetic city and slay the false saint!

Embers of War: Review/Gilded Skies Playthrough

"So the campaign mission of Embers of War as usual lets you play as several factions as in Dawn of War. The newest thing is honestly the consistent amount of allies you can get in the various missions, as well as a frankly shocking lack of backstabbing stupidity from the Eldar."

"At least you get, well actually have to backstab chaos repeatedly in your missions with them though, in the campaign."

"There's been some complaints about the structure, but to be frank, I don't think implementing like, what, 20 factions on a sector scale campaign map was really on the cards. The structure is a lot more like Winter Assault, actually, pretty traditional. Each faction has their own set of missions, and the developers are clearly showing a lot of love for the Eldar here. Tons of new content for them, probably having the smartest AI among all the factions, every unit having special abilities or whatnot. And having the stupid racial ability to have no Fog of War. I don't know how they ever though that was balanced."

Yeah about the AI. This game supports way more units that Dawn of War ever did. The AI can be pretty smart about things, like sniping chaos sorcerers with rangers by flanking them instead of random cultist units. It can be pretty dumb at times though, like sending your game-critical Ork Warboss into a melee fight with a GREATER Daemon of Khorne. Repeatedly. If you're playing orks make sure you micromanage your Ork Warboss and nothing else. I am not joking. It can slaughter basically everything, but losing it makes the Tau Ethereal loss penalty look like a JOKE."

"Anyway, the campaign. It's a series of missions where the faction supposedly wins. The Campaign has persistent units, and the Eldar's don't get any reinforcements at all, so while they start off frankly overpowered, you might have to replay previous missions or try and win your missions with, like, a single farseer and only wraith units. So try not to lose your units, or you'll start facing unwinnable missions. The other factions get refills if you ever run low, so more Eldar focus I guess. I mean they replaced their whole unitset and got rid of their Avatar of Khaine, what is up with that?"

"We're gonna try out one the Eldar/Human special mission here. It's called Gilded Skies and seems pretty interesting. Apparently nobody's ever beaten it yet though."

"Okay, we start off with.. a Seer Council, an Aspect host.. a bunch of Wraithguard with Wraithseers upgrades, and holy shit a whole army of Titans, Space Marines, Helguard and map full of free autospawning elite militia, automatic fortification bonuses, choke full of bombers and how the hell does anyone ever lose this mission?

5 Minutes Later

"Okay, it's a ton of daemons invading you. Last stand mission, looks like."

10 Minutes Later

"Okay it seems hard with all the mind control but doable, I'm not sure what the big fuss is?"

15 Minutes Later

"It's just 5 minutes left to win, and what the fuck TWO FIRST CIRCLES?"

*Frantic Typing Sounds*

"So these are the guys you usually see when you fail a mission against Chaos and they show up to blow everything up."

*Sounds of everyone dying*

"The thing is that the game doesn't actually end until the Circle kills everyone. And I guess this is why."

*Mind control sound plays.*

"It's basically a lose condition cause it takes like no damage from everything. Oh gods, did it just mind control all my Helguard?"

Mission Failed.

AN: Do not try the bonus mission of hell.

Cloudy Skies

The many that was One was exhausted. More selves had died in the last few days then had died since their birth.

Self over the sea sang of loss.

Self over the shores sang of death.

Self over the ice sang of victory.

Selves over the mountains sang of anticipation.

Selves had died, but they had died well, and they had learned. The Enemy had strengths, but it also had weaknesses, and the Selves were nothing if not adaptable. New selves, new tactics, hardened resolve. The final battle was nigh; the Enemy had spent its reserves and made a final push for its shining prize. The blind ones fought with faith and fury, dying in staggering numbers to drive back the Enemy. Watching and waiting had been painful, so many souls snuffed out or tainted, but they had waited, gathering and preparing. But they would wait no longer.

With gentle pressure, many Selves slid into the world of wind and light. Selves where now the One that was many and they sang of war.

In an instant, day turned to night. The sky itself became hidden behind a thick carpet of leathery wings, the topmost legion of angyls dying in seconds under a massive barrage of psychic furry. The man-sized gargouilles dived downwards and the second legion began to ready their shields, only for swift shapes to dart through the descending cloud. Sleek winged forms of chitin rode upon living rockets and leathery wings, as living fighter craft closed in an instant, projecting pencil thin jets of acid that tore into the reeling angyls. The fighter fast Renanin gouged gaping holes in perfect ranks, as the slower gargouilles slammed into the disorganized legion.

The angyls were outnumbered dozens to one, but help was but heartbeats away. With a flash of tainted golden light, reserves arrived: five times five archangyls of the Fifth Circle, a force to crush any surprise. Dozens of tight knots of gargouille flash into dust to fule distant powers, and dozens of vast segmented Pomolas appeared. Lighting arced from segments in their armor, as hundreds of weapon minds struck from within their sinuous forms. Off guard and outnumbered, the archangyls scattered as wards against teleportation and summoning sprang up around them. Unimpeded, the behemoth rampage through the flying legion, reaping a terrible toll. As the archangyls regrouped and rallied their surviving troops, the human air force struck, and the golden legion found its reserves depleted. Far above, the One who is Many laughs.

The air becomes a rolling mass of death and furry as reinforcements from both sides flocked to the fight. Far above Cloud Physalis fade and reappear, vomiting forth an endless stream of reinforcements. Below golden gates vomit forth endless legions of shining damons. Ripples of power marking a portal being closed or torn open. A bloody stalemate, but one that the golden legion could ill afford.

Five hundred and fifty-five of the swiftest of them dart from the legion, speeding past the chitinous swarm. Bursts of ash mark faild attempts by the looming weapons to teleport their minions into the midsts of the attackers. Gargouilles fall upon them from above like a steady rain, but the golden flock parts like water around stones. Ponderous Pomola are conjured with thunder loud cracks of displaced air, their lighting bolts reaping a steady toll. Yet the flock of warp spawn has their orders and their mission, pressing on heedless of their losses.

Renanin roar through them, but are met with perfectly disciplined planes of golden light. Without the cacophony and confusion of the Gargouille swarm, or the crushing power of the Pomola the swift fighters find their efforts stymied. The strategy becomes clear. Should the Cloud Physalis divert the forces to ward them away, the battle lines will collapse as the angyls overwhelm them, if they do not the horde shall reap a bloody toll on the unguarded Cloud Physalis. Bio drones break off, diving down to reinforce faltering battlelines. The weapon has made its choice as gleaming death gathers itself for a final push. It is then, however, that the sons of terra remind the angyls of their presence.

The guiding upon the sky shatters, as a flame-wreathed fortress of adamant crashes through the sky. The Decent destroyer sky fall is the first ship of the avernite navy to enter the atmosphere during the incursion, and it will not be the last. The angyls have scarcely finished raising a hasty shield when a second vessel crashes through the sky, then another and another. Once more day is turned to night, this time under the looming hulks of hundreds of vast ships. Then their targeting auspexs find the enemy, and their guns turn night back into day.

@Durin another thing. this one fought me for days.

The Return of Grey

Gilded skies reign and the Last Saint is under attack. A champion of the Emperor long since thought lost moves without hesitation.

He had at one point thought of nothing else but getting back to his squad and the trust.

Running for his life and missing parts of himself, it was what kept him moving. A purpose he could strive for, his previous purpose had died he didn't want this one to die as well.

He fought his way through the caverns, probably being the first Grey Knight to deal with Xenos ever. And when a baby far from its home was about to die he saved it. An asset he thought at first, but eventually a companion that he trusted with his life.

And indeed they needed each other for the trials ahead, for in the section of the caverns he couldn't do what Jacob had done. So they prepared and entered the Underwater Maze, the less that is said of that place the better. Location after location they moved, the Crystal Hollow, the Burning Abyss, The City of Blood, and so many more.

Ever moving forward all the while he thought about his duty and all that had changed if it was really worth it. And realized ...that it didn't really matter.

His duty was given, but that didn't mean he couldn't choose it. And so after centuries of traveling through the various subspaces of Avernus, the Grey returned through the weakened veils.

----------------
Daemons were marching in lock step, on their way to reinforce the First Circle. When something stepped out that almost didn't seem real, a runed figure in seamless armor of an unknown material carrying a great glaive made of bone.

A creature the size of a Knight with great tentacles let out a blood curdling scream, and the daemons known for their discipline and fearlessness all take a step back.

"I am the hammer….."

@Durin this one I honestly couldn't do it the justice it deserves but maybe I'll revisit it eventually but in the mean time have this.
