Jonathan Edward Russell (born 9 October 2000) is a professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Mansfield Town.[3] Born in England, he represents the Jamaica national team.
Club career
[edit]Chelsea
[edit]Born in Hounslow, Russell joined Chelsea at under-7 level.[4] He turned professional in October 2017.[4] He moved on loan to Accrington Stanley in October 2020.[5] He moved to Huddersfield Town in July 2021.[2] He scored his first goal for the club on 23 February 2022 when he scored a late winner in a 2–1 win against Cardiff City.[6]
Barnsley
[edit]On 31 January 2023, Russell joined EFL League One side Barnsley for an undisclosed fee.[7][8]
Mansfield Town
[edit]On 8 January 2026, Russell joined fellow League One club Mansfield Town on loan until the end of the season.[9]
On 20 May 2026, Russell agreed to return to Mansfield Town on a permanent two-year deal upon the expiry of his contract with Barnsley.[10][11][12]
International career
[edit]On 13 September 2022, Russell was called up by the Jamaica national football team.[13]
On 26 March 2023, Russell makes his debut for Jamaica in the 2022–23 CONCACAF Nations League group play match against Mexico entering in the 66th minute for Ravel Morrison.[14]
Style of play
[edit]He has been described as "a very tall box-to-box midfield player who can also play as a number 10 and has a great eye for a pass".[4]
