Diatoxanthin is a type of xanthophyll found in phytoplankton and diatoms.[1] It plays a vital role in photoprotection in diatoms, where the diadinoxanthin-diatoxanthin cycle is an important short-term photoprotective mechanism.[2] Diatoxanthin has also been investigated for uses in treating breast cancer.[3]
