Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas will be a judge for the Miss America Pageant.
The three-time gold medal winner will join Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and “Austin & Ally” star Laura Marano at the ceremony held Sept. 11 in Atlantic City.
Douglas, 20, is widely considered a role model for young women for the way she handled herself after being bullied online during the Games.
Users on social media dubbed her “Crabby Gabby” stating she was jealous of her teammates, ridiculed her hair and called her unpatriotic for not holding her hand over her heart during the National Anthem.
“When they talk about my hair or me not putting my hand (on) my heart or me being very salty in the stands, they’re really criticizing me, and it doesn’t really feel good,” she told reporters during the Games. “It was a little bit hurtful.”
Douglas later told People she’s found a way to block out the haters.
“Maybe people weren’t being fair on social media, but that’s social media for you,” she told the magazine. “I just found things to be positive about, and there’s a lot to be happy about. We won the gold medal as a team, and it was just such an amazing experience. I came to the Olympics and won a gold medal!”
Adding, “I can only do what I can do and if people want to say their stuff on social media, I can’t stop them.”
